JOB DESCRIPTION & PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
​Hog Show Barn Producers oversee all aspects of a sow farm with the goal of producing high quality genetic animals for showmanship purposes.  They must have good people management and animal care skills. 
Responsibilities: ​Show pig producers are responsible for the life and care of all animals at their facility.  They must provide a nutritious diet, and clean environment for them.  They create protocols for employees to follow, order feed/supplies, follow all bio-security protocols, maintain equipment, maintain the property, provide daily direction to staff, communicate goals of the operation, ensure safety procedures are being followed, organize genetic improvement, manage marketing and animal sales, assist with the breeding of sows, gestation and farrowing of pigs, training new employees, maintaining staffing needs, keeping up with all inventory and supplies. They must keep up with the genetic trends and genetic standards within their animals to market high quality animals in demand within the show market.  They may often attend shows with their own animals to build on their name.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Genetics
  • Business
Education/Training:
  • High School Diploma
  • Optional: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science/Genetics​
