Job Description & Primary Responsibilities:

Precision Agriculture Specialists provide support and technical assistance to growers who are using precision technologies on their farms. They implement actual work of grid and contour differential global positioning systems for soil sampling as well as developing informational and recommendation maps.

Responsibilities: Precision Agriculture Specialists are responsible for implementing practical application of record keeping and nutrient management plans, assisting in marketing precision agriculture program to producers, networking with local government and extension leaders, providing technical service and recommendations to patrons, assisting customers in installing and calibrating their precision equipment, implementing actual work of differential global positioning systems, providing training for other retail employees in precision agriculture, assisting in handling customer concerns and complaints, interpreting satellite remote sensing to identify and map field variability, preparing fertility, fungicide and seeding maps and recommendations, using GPS and soil test zones, locating fields, performing soil sampling duties in field, implementing variable rate application of lime and nutrients, providing agronomic services in field using scouting apps or software, and understanding and participating in the business plan and strategies.

Education Requirements:

Recommended High School Courses:
  • Agriculture Education
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Chemistry and Biology)
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Ag Engineering, Agronomy, Ag Business
  • Certified Crop Advisor Certification may be required
