Lumber Graders use NHLA inspection standards to grade lumber. Lumber is marked based on maximum production value according to the specifications of the cutting order for the species being manufactured. Responsibilities: Lumber Graders must mark lumber for cut-off to maximize grade value. They must decide whether to rip boards or send them back to the edger. Lumber Graders pull and stack lumber according to cutting orders. They also monitor the quality of lumber for miscuts, thickness variations, saw tooth marks, or other defects. Finally, they must maintain a safe workspace and adhere to all safety regulations.
