Job Description & Primary Responsibilities:
Loggers, lumberjacks, or timber fallers work in the timber industry, cutting down trees and processing them into logs. Responsibilities: Loggers are responsible for cutting down trees using chain saws and other specialty logging equipment or machinery. In this process, they will sort lumber and remove excess limbs and branches, and trim logs into specific lengths at the cutting site. Then they will chain logs to equipment or other machines that will tow logs to a loading site. They must be able to determine how much lumber a tree will yield by measurement and scale and identify different tree species. Loggers may be required to climb trees for inspection, trimming, or to attach cable rigging for harvest. Loggers should inspect and maintain equipment for optimal safety at all times. They may also manage other employees, conduct paper work and financial duties, and communicate with customers on a regular basis. Loggers must also understand the lumber markets and logistics.
