Job DescriPTION & Primary Responsibilities
A hoof trimmer routinely trims hooves of cattle to maintain hoof health. Additionally, they treat and wrap hooves that may have been damaged, injured, or infected. They also work with clients to select cattle that are due for routine maintenance and identify those that need to be treated. Hoof trimmers also keep records of cattle trimmed, treated, and other details. Responsibilities: Hoof trimmers are responsible for trimming and cleaning hooves. They should maintain a supply of medications, foot wraps, and other treatment supplies. Hoof trimmers must maintain knowledge of the parts of the hoof, hoof diseases, nutrition related hoof issues, and must know all medication withdrawal times and rules. Hoof trimmers should maintain a strong relationship with herd managers, nutritionists, and veterinarians. Hoof trimmers must also know how to operate their trimming chute and be able to repair equipment when needed.
