Job Description & Primary Responsibilities:
Dairy Herdsman Managers typically manage the day-to-day farm operations for the farm/ranch owner. Many times, dairy herdsman managers will live on the property to be close to the animals at all times of the day. Their duties include caring for sick animals themselves or calling the veterinarian, managing breeding programs, maintaining fences, transporting animals and keeping thorough records to better inform the farm/ranch owner. Responsibilities: Dairy Herdsman Managers are responsible for identifying and caring for sick animals, managing a breeding program, conducting artificial insemination, building and repairing new and existing fences, working independently and as a team, operating heavy equipment and semi tractor-trailers, assisting with birthing, maintaining wells, pipelines, property and equipment, transporting animals to market, keeping thorough records, and communicating with the farm/ranch owner on a regular basis.
Education Requirements:
Recommended High School Courses:
Agriculture Education
Mathematics
Science (Animal, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry)
Education/Training:
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science or Livestock Related Field
Experience working with livestock
