Job DescriPTION and Primary ResponSIBILITIES:
An artificial insemination technician (AI technician) uses tools to insert semen into female animals to make them pregnant. An AI technician must have understand the reproductive anatomy of dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, sheep, horses, and poultry to ensure they have the correct site of semen deposition. AI technicians must also ensure that they maintain records of semen storage and that they regularly maintain their semen tank. Responsibilities: Artificial insemination technicians must perform AI on animals in a timely manner to ensure they are bred during the proper heat cycle. They must store, thaw, transport, and deposit semen correctly for the maximum likelihood of pregnancy. They must understand reproductive protocols on each client farm and provide consultation as needed. AI technicians must also perform proper animal handling techniques and monitor animals for proper health and welfare.
